LONDON, January 29.

There is great excitement on the Liverpool cotton market. American cotton rose to 8.40, and there was a similar advance in New York.

NEW YORK, January 30.

After the early record cotton dropped 57 points in New York, creating tremendous excitement. "Bulls 0 afterwards bid for all the July cotton in sight, and meanwhile at New Orleans the May cotton broke BSO points from the highest price.

Unprecedented excitement reigns in the New York cotton market. Owing to the Liverpool speculations the prices rose 40 points in New York and 65 points in New Orleans.

[The extent to which operations are carried on in cotton may b© gauged from tho fact that in 1901 the world's cotton trade was valued at £114.702.000, England's share being estimated at 64 per cent. The United States raises nine-tenths of the world's cotton.]
