RETIREMENT OF JUDGE ROBINSON.
NELSON, January 27.
At the District Court to-day all the members of the local Bar and several representative civil servants and officials assembled to bid farewell to Judge H. W. Robinson, who is retiring after long service to the colony on the bench, as goldfields officer, and journalist in the early days. Mr C. Y. Fell, as senior m-embe-r of the Bar, apologised for the absence of Colonel Pitt, Attorney- general, and referred an length to tho abilities and services of Mr Robinson as judge for 10 years in Nelson. He also epoke of the soundness of his decisions and the few appeals. Mr Magmity endorsed Mr Fell's remarks. Tl'e presentation took the form of a purse of sovereigns. The recipient, in leturniug thanks, referred to his long career in the public service, he having be«n on the bench erne© 1863. He had clone his duty without fear or favour.
It is understood that ex-Judge Robinson carries on his profession as a barrister and solicitor in connection with his son at Masterton.
In the afternoon tho members of the Civil Service waited on Judge Robinson and, on their behalf, Mr Wilson Heaps, S.M., imad him a presentation of a puise of sovereigns. The fudge's kindness and worth were referred to, regret being oxpre&sed at his retirement after 4-1 years' service on tho bench.
