Pints and Suggestion.
Mending China — China may be mendocl as fiirnly a& a rock in the follow ng nvnier. Two persons will be ncrded for the woik, however, for the manipulation must, be done rapidly. The necessary materials are a little "unslaked lime, pulverised, ths slightly beaten v. hue of an egg, and a small hairbrush, such as is used for gum. Put the white of an egg on the broken edge of both pieces to be*"joinecl, and immediately dust one edge with the powdered lime ; put the tv.o edges accurately and firmly together, hold in place for a minute or two, and then lay a'.ide to dry. A Sickroom Hint. — Pillows and bedclothes phould every few days be carried into another room and thoroughly shaken and aired.
For the Complexion. — Oranges eaten before breakfast have a v» onderfully beautifying effect on the complexion, i-.ud can c.o no hc n rm if eaten in moderation.
Hot Water Drinkers. — If you need to di ink hot water pour it from one jug to another a few times. This will aerate it, and remove the flat, insipid taste so objectionable to most.
The- Midday Rest.— Don't neglect the 30 minutes' rest during the day, with the feet raised. It gives the whole body a great sense of repose, and works wonders in. smoothing out the lines on the face.
For E3H brows and Eyelashes. — To thicken the eyebrows and eyelashes apr^y vaseline 01 lanoline in which a small quantity of quinine has been mixed.
Foot^praius. — Slide the fingers un-l-er the foot, and, having grea&ed both thumbs, pref-s them successively with increasing force over the painful parts for about a quarter of an hour. The application should be repeated several times, or until the patient is able to v. a]k. This is a simple lemedy tor a very fiequent accident, and can bs performed by the most inexpeiiene*2d.
Cure for Influenza. — It in not generally known ilu't equal parts of new milk and lime -water constitute one of the bast cures for influenza (vui passing whisky, which is so much n&ed), and in cases vshere there is fever tbe v iiite of a raw egg will not only strengthen the patient, but will soothe the pain. Do not give the yolk, as that would increase the fever. Hoarseness — Break s^ix fre&h egg?, and put them, shells and all, into the juice of six good-sized lemons, and stir the mixture daily. In four days' time strain through muslin, and ?dd J?lb of sugar candy, previously boiled in ha]f a- pi.-it of water. Wii-n finished, pour in a pint of rum, and take a wineglassful every morning. Keep the eggs and lemoii in a dark place while dissolving.
For Burns ami Scalds. — Always keep carbonate of soda in the house — it is usefiil £or so m.vny purposes. For burns anl scalds it is an excellent remedy. The surface of the burn should be coy :sd v,-itU it, either dry or just damped. It relieves the pain caused by the bites or stings « f insects. A small saltspoonful in. half a tumbler of vrater -will relieve heartburn and indigestion, and if taken with tepid -srafi last thing at right will frequently induci sleep in restless persons.
