Notes from Cromwell.

fFaoM Ora Own Correspondent.)

CROMWELL. January 26. The wcathei is still exceptionally warm, and eveiytlnng is gettirg burnt up. The river is falling steadily. Both Eleclucs are on good gold, and I believe No. 2 is on nch giound. They are working some maiden ground below where the record return was got and above where the old No. 1 got its lecoid returns when in the hands of s private company. Junction No. 2 Is working some maiden ground. 1 believe it is very' rich, also very rough.

Ihe Hartley and Riley dredge is undergoing a few necessary repairs, and will not get started this week.

Halfway House was delayed waiting for coal, but expected to get started to-day.

February 1. There have been a few wsterspcuts and some very heavy thunder round about the district, bub no damage is reported. The weather is fine and the river steady. __ Both the Electrics are now on rich wash, No. 2 being on exceptionally rich. They should put up some big returns this year. Cromwell No. 1 has so far not picked) up anything rich, but should improve as she gets near the Electric boundary. The Rise and Shine No. 2 is busy opening out and doing some alterations. They have to shift a lot of the tailings >f Nc. 1 for a start, and it will take fully two weeks yet opening up.
