OAMARU ATHLETICS v. ZINGARIRICHMOND.

The annual fixture between the Oamaru Athletics and Zingari-Richmond was played at Bishopsoourfc on, Wednesday. Mr A. Downee controlled the game, which was contested in thoroughly sportsmanlike manner. There was only a small section of the general public present. Athletics won the to'so, and took advantago of the- strong wind blowing. Zingari-Richmond kicked off, and immediately sat up an attack on the visitors' line. Good defence and excellent footwork on the parL of Athletics removed play to centre. Tke ball travelled up and down the field at a great rate, first on one side of the halfway flag, then on the other. Taken on the whole of this spell was very evenly contested. On two occasions, however, the Athletios took the play dangerously near the homo team's line, but too hard kicking lost them the opportunity of scoring, and the spell ended without a point being registered in either team's farour. The efforts of the firrt spell had been too much for the visitors, who in the second half went under like ninepins to the superior weight and paoe of the opposition. Athletics were for th* most part busy defending their lines, but all the strength they could muster was not sufficient to keep back the ZingariRichmond. Try after try was scored in intervals of a few minutes' duration, and when the whistle sounded for time ZingariRichmond had scored 26 points to their opponents' nil. This big score was made ■up of eeven tries and one goal, which goes to prove that the place-kicking was feeble. An unfortunate accident happened during the progress of this game, one of the ZingariRiohmond players receiving a kick which rendered him unconscious for some time.
