School Matters. — The annual Hireling of householders was held on ths 27tli ult As usual, the attendance was poor, the residents not taking much interest in the matter. Mr Isbister was appointed chairman. The new committee elected weie Mesor; J-bist«r (<hauman), F. Venn (clerk), D. Miuray, J Philip, jun., A. Garvan, H. Ross, and W. Wilcock. These, with the exception of F. Venn, were the retiring committee. Duung the yeai the committee spent £28 in asphalting part of the playground around the school. This v.ill be of great benefit during wet weathsr. Extensive alterations are being carried out to the teacher's resideuce. The average attendance is 51, and is well maintained.

Church. — A sale of work in connection with the Dunback Presbyterian Church will be held in tho schoolhouse on the evening of Friday, Bth inst , and on Saturday afternoon and evening. The opening ceremony will probably be performed by the Rev. Mr Clarke, of Palmerston, at 7 p.m. on Friday. The ladieg of the district have taken an active interest in the work, and a number of them have met orce a. week for gome tune past lor the DUXDose of

making up particles for the sale. During each evening a number of gramaphone selections will be given, and a number of limelight views shown. Should the weather permit, visitois will have the privilege of having a peep at the moon and stars through Mr Blundell's large telescope.
