The sewing has been carried on by Sirs Beattie for the past 18 months without remuneration, and the thanks of the corwnittee and parents are due to her for her gratuitous services ; but as tha Minister of Education has been allowed a grant by the Government to help schools such as ours, Mrs Beattie has, on tie recommendation of the committee, been accepted by the board as sewing mistrees, and will in future receive payment for her work. On picnic day prizes were distributed to the children, the funds (£2 12s Sd) for the purchase of the books being raised locally. Fnancially the committee started with a credit balance of 15s sd. Against this were two outstanding accounts of 303 and ISs 6d, for coal and firewood ; but, with the help of part proceed from a concert — £2 17s 3d — and with the board's quarterly allowance, of £4, the committee has been able to meet all its requirements, ard to hand over a credit balance of £2 4s Id, *ith a good asset of fire material in stock The committee has kept everything in connection with tho school in gcod repair, and has also drained the glebe with tile and mole drairs, ar.d asphalted about 200 yards Tound the school, which gives it a nice, tidy appearance, ns well a3 forming a suitable g-roundi for drill. This work haa been accomplished by lccallyrtused flinch, by free donations, and by concert proceeds, to the amount of £17 19s Id, together with, tho board's subsidy of £12 5s Cd. The total cost of the work and material was £•24 10s 4d, co that a credit balance is left hero also. A? the inspector, on his recent visit, stated that the present classroom, is inadequate for the proper teaching of the children, we would recornmsnd the new committee to again urge tho Education Board to see to the enlarging of tho room, as r.o reply has yet been icceiveci to oui application."
