CAMBRIANS.

April 24 — The weather during the past weell Ims been anything but good for trapping or any outdoor work, being cold and damp during the day and winding up with rain and' sleet during the night. Harvest. — The harvesting is pTetty wellall through here for another year except a piece of crop Mr Beattie has at tho Downs farm, which, I hear, is very green 7et. Cricket. — Our cricket team spent Good Fry day afternoon in trying their hand with a Sty -" Bathans team, who proved too good for the local boys by a few runs. Wedding. — Another of our young fellowi joined the list of benedicts in Easter week, and was welcomed home on the succeeding Thursday night by the local tir. band, who had some trouble in inducing Mr Jones and hi* bride to make their appearance. When the^ succeeded, I believe they were well treated, ana left wishing Charlie many years of happiness, in which we all join. Obituary.— An old and respected resident o! Matakanui (Mrs Mellor) died here this morning at the residence of her brother, Mr J. Beattie.

Deceased, although not a resident of Cambrians, •was well-known here, both she and her late husband having resided for a great number of 'years at Matakanui, where, in the old days, they kept the publichouse which is now owned by her son, Mr "W. Walls. Mrs Mellor was highly respected by all who knew her. She was of a jovial disposition, and had a kind word for everyone. She leaves a grown-up family to mourn their loss. She died from failure of tho heart, and was 72 years of age. Her remains will be interred at Drybread on Sunday.

Political. — I am pleased to hear that our present member is in the locality looking after the interests of his electorate.
