ARMY STORES SCANDALS

LONDON, April 27. The Pretoria correspondent of the Morniug Post (C.) states that £120,000 worth of condemned army stores were burned on the veldt. The town officials and others who were present declared that at least two-thirds were absolutely sound. Twelve thousand cafees cf tinned meats of good brands, bearing date April, 1902, stacked 12ft high, were destroyed. MELBOURNE, April 28. Letters received by merchants from South Africa state that the sale of surplus army .stores disturbs the market, aud that there is a large amount of fraud carried on between sellers and buyer?. It is alleged that stacks of oats aud hajr are sold to those ''in the know," inside of which are concealed quantities of spirits, and other more valuable articles.
