Notes from Tuapeka. (From Our Wetherstones Correspondent.)
April 28. — Local Industry washed down three bodies, on Saturday, and, judging by bulk and u.ic'eaned, there appeared to be between 13oz sloC 14oz of gold. That £3 only for one week's elevating, of nine hours v. day. It will takf another weak yet before they finish th« paddock. Ifc is all solid on the dip of the reef on the right or west side of the gully, with streaks of gold in places. It will have to be broken up with picks before the nozzle i 3 turned on it. I believe Mr Y7illiam Dawson Qias been appointed snaiirger. The Gclde-u Crescent were fcrtnnata in finishing at the time they did, *or had they been a. few hours later they would not have finished yet, their ra.ee. having broken away ?.t the head, where it comes through a landslip. The correct return of their wash-down was iiSoz 15divt, making 750z for .nearly five weeks' work. A dividend of Is 6d wa.= declared last Thursday night, being the eighth, and making 93 paid back.
