OTAGO CENTRAL STOCK SALES. The third series of the Otago Central stock sales was held on Thursday and Friday last, when the entries were as follows : On Thursday (at Rough Ridge) 5074 sheep, Friday (at Warpiata) 10,307 sheep. The greater number of the entries were comprised of ewes and lambs, the bulk of which were in fair order, although a few lines of lambs were small and m low condition; while others, which in a more favourable season would have gone off as fats, showed j signs of scouring Good lines of -wethers and I two-tooths were scarce, and those that were offered were not in the condition that might I have been expected when the superabundance i of feed is taken, into consideration. There was a large attendance at both sales, including buyers from the Taieri, Oamaru, Canterbury, and Gore districts. It was evident, however, early in the sales that on this occasion the ' outside buyers would be out-bid by the faimers in the Mamototo and surrounding districts, and the result proved this to be the case, for nearly the whole of the sheep were required to satisfy local requirements. The demand at Rough Ridge was keen for wethers and ewes, and prices showed an advance of Is to 2s per head. The same advance Was recorded at Waipiata, more especially towards the end of the sale, when prices were a shade higher. Lambs, on the other hand, were not in such demand at Rough Ridge, but after the first few lots were offered at Waipiata it was evident that buyers were more plentiful, and values for medium and inferior lambs improved to the extent of fully Is 6d per head. Well grown lots, however, selling at from 7s to 7s 6d per head, were firm at last sale's rates, but were not quotably higher.
