The annual meeting of the Otago Ches= Club was held at the Club Booms, Liverpool street, on Wednesday evening. Mr Warsaw (the president) occupied the chair. The Chairman, in moving the adoption of the aniiual report and balance sheet, alluded to the probability of the next New Zealand Championship meet'ng being held m Dunedin. He also suggested that the incoming executive should endeavour to ascertain the feeling of Otago University students regarding the desirability of forming chess classes in connection with the university. The Chairman, in support of his proposal, pointed to the fact that all the centres, of learning in the Old World had similar clubs, Oxford and Cambridge being notable examples. In the course of the evening the club's championship trophy w»3 presented to Mr F. W. Clayton, and the senior and junior grade prizes were presented to Messrs Balk, Borton, Hamel, and Stone. The following office-beareis were elected for the ensuing 12 months —President, Mr T. Johnstone; vice-presidents — Messrs Crow and Stone, secretary, Mr J. H. F. H«mel; treasurer, Mr O. Balk; committee — Messrs Clayton, Edwards, R. A. Cleland, Warsaw, Flint, and Pascoc.
