WAIWERA.
Aiigust 31. — The weather has been most suitable for spring work for some time, and the land being in good order, a good deal of sowing had been done. I notice a number of lamts in the district, some several weeks old. Stock geijerally are looking very well. There is quite a spring in the grass, and even in old pastures.
Changes. — Our little community has been getting quite a shaking up lately. We have lost our much-respected minister, and now we are about to lose our schoolmaster, Mr Clark, and also his assistant, Miss Main. Mr T. Rhodes and family are also on the point oi leaving us. Mr Wills, who has been rabbit inspector here for several years, has also leit us. Mr Wills has always done his duty in a straightforward manner, and has ever been civil courteous, and impartial. The departure of our teachers will leave a blank among us not easily filled. Mr Clark has proved himself an excellent teacher, as a glance at the records will show. Waiwera School, without doubt, ranks among the best all round of its class. Miss Main, ' too, has proved herself a most capable teacher. I heartily congratulate the two school committees who have been fortunate enough to respectively secure their services.
Entertainment. — Since my last an entertainment has been held in the Mission Hall in connection with the Band of Hope. Mr Tait occupied the chair, Mr Gibson addressed the young folk, and Mr -and Mrs Roseveare led the singing and music, the other performers being Misses Aitken, Broad, Calhim, Edwards, Smart, Ayson, Rhodes, Anderson, Cooke, and Eoseveare, Messrs Tait, Cairney, Ghent, Murray, Rhodes, Edwards, Broad, and Eoseveare. A most enjoyable evening was spent, and all the performers acquitted themselves well.
