LAWRENCE.
September 3. — The rabbit industiy is stilT lively, 'the various buyers sending off several tiuck loads daily. The long diough'o has been very favourable for rabbiting, but is beginning to be felt by householders in the town, most of whose tanks are quite empty. The town pipe supply has now to be principally depended upon.
The arrival and departure of mining macliineiy goes merrily on, our railway station yard bcii;g a busy place.
The Mounted flifle Corps are now steadily drilling. Detachments belonging to different parts of the" district are holding separate drills in their own districts, and general drills of the whole corps will be held in Lawrence at stated periods.
Prices of stock keep high!* Draught horses are fetching £50 to £60 at jjlocal sales. Fat slock also realise high figures.
The local mining gives fairly satisfactory returns, and a number of new dredges are nearing completion.
