NO GRANGE FOR COMFORTS. WELLINGTON, August 31.
The Governor lias received the following Cablegram from Sir Alfred Milner : — ". Owing to the great difficulty in forwarding private sto?es to tlie front I would suggest to senders of perishable goods, apple*, efcc, that they run a great risk of being -wasted owing >to delay in despatching them. There is a large accumulation here already, and with only a single line of railway on which to forward them." • MAFEKTNG CONGRATULATIONS. ' Captain Alexander Has written to his Worship the Mayer, by command of his Excellency the Governor, enclosing a copy of the following message: — "I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your despatch of the 28th May covering congratulations to her Majesty the Queen from the mayor and citizen's of Dunedin on' the relief of Maf eking. This message has been- duly laid before the t^ueen, who has commanded me to coavev her thanks to the senders for their loyal and patriotic sentiments. — I have, etc., J. CHAMBERLAIN."' -
