PROMOTION OF LIEUTENANT NICOLSON.
On. Saturday the officer commanding the Dunedin Engineer Volunteers cabled to Captain J. M. Nicolson conveying the congratu-" lations of the members of the corps upon his promotion to the command of a company of the fourth contingent. WELLINGTON, August 31. The Governor to-day (31st) received a cable from the General of Communications, stating that the latter had received the following from Lord Roberts :— " August 27. I have promoted Lieutenant J. M. Nicolson to be captain, vice Captain Harvey, lulled in action, and Sergeant-major W. Jicke'll to be lieutenant^ vice Lieutenant Nicolson." '
