Notes from Waipoai
(From Oun Own. Correspondent.) August 27. The periodical cleaning-up at Knight and Caudwell's Lammerlaw Flat Hydraulic Sluicing claim took place at the end of last week, the return being over lOOoz.^ This is a most satisfactory result, especially- when it is considered that tho tinie occuxjied was only 15 days of . actual work; in fact, it is the record return for Waipori m this class of mining. The claim is situated about half a mile from the township, snd is under the management of Mr Wm. Knight. It has always been a question with hydraulic miners, and one about which there is gieat conflict of opinion among experts, whether it pays to pick and hand-clean the bot-tom-after blowing it as baie as possible the jet from hose or hydrant. Mr Knight has no hesitation in giving an aflswer in the af&rnistive, a:id at the finish of each paddock he always puts oh a gang of men who carefully pick, scrape, and sweep every square foot of the bottom. The claim has now been working for over a year, and it is' admitted by everyone that the shareholder's well deserve their success for the persevering way m which they attacked and overcame their initiatory difficulties.
