HIGH SCHOOLS BOARD OF GOVERNORS.
The regular meeting of tho High School Barrel of CSovc^'iiors was held on Monday, there being present — Dr Brown (chairman). 33r Shand, the Jlev. AY. Rewitson, and Mr J. J. Ramsay. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs G. C 4. Russell, J. R. Sinclair, and his Worship the Mayor. The Chairman reported in the abser.ee of the treasurer accounts for August amounting to 5493 had been gone over and > recommended for payment.- — The amount was pasf-ad for payment. Reports wore read from the Lady Principal of the GiriV High School, and the Rector of the Boys' High School concerning the free scholars for the second term.— iTho report* were recaived. A memorandum was I'oad from the Commissioner of Crown. Lands asking for a return of particulars of runs vested in the board. — Tho secretary" was directed to give the information asl:ed for. The transfer of Imsg of section 11, block 11, Stvatli-Taieri, from T. A. Jcnes to Andrew Horvey was approved. A leUer was read from Mr J. A. Mitchell, lessee' of sections 22 to 25, block VII, sections 2a to 6 a, block XT, Wyndham district ; rcctions 2 and 3, block I, and sections 1 to 4-, block IV, Mokereta district, asking when the board proposed to value the improvements, and what" 'time be would be allowed to remove stock at the expiry of tho lease. — It Ava^ resolved that the land be offered for lease during December next. . The Secretary stated that- he -had inspected, part of section 1, block 11, Strath-Taieri, and ■ found that most of it had been granted by the warden as a special dredging claim. He (the secretary) recommended Tiat a claim be made for a refund of .the rent paid by tho holder of the license. — It way decided to obtain the solicitors' opinion as to the power tho warden had to grant a license. Tho Rector of the Boys' High School reported that at a meeting held at the Town Hall it had been decided, with the approval of the board, to erect memorial tablets to any expupils who had fallen, or who might; fall, in the South African war; also that the names of ex-pivpils v.-;ho had taken any part in the war be inscribed.— The board approved of the idea, but decided tbat the design should be submitted to them before any tablet was erected. - ■ ■
