William Rich irdson, a temperance street orator, has been sent to gaol tor not -paying the fine lecently imputed upon him for witnessing pj signature on an electoral form without having seen it signed. In the Supreme Court an elderly man, Alexander Campbell, was sentenced to seven years' hard labour for an indecent assault on two young girls. A boy, Albert North, was found not guilty on a charge of indecent assault on a girl at Whangarei. At the conclusion of the latter case" Justice Coi.olly commented strongly on the verdict, saying" that the court might as well be discontinued from the way in which the hearing of some cases resulted. Richardson, the prohibition lecturer, who went to prison on Wednesday last rather than pay a fine imposed by the court for a- breach of the Electox\al Act, has been released, his friends, in spite of his requests to the contrary, having found the amount of the fine and cos>ts. ,
