THE OTAGO PATRIOTIC FUND COMMITTEE.

Wo learn from Mr C. R. Smith, the lion, seecretary of the Otago Patriotic Fund Committee, that the committee has made it its business to meet invalided troopers from time to time who have arrived at Dunedin or passed through this city, and aciminsitered to their wants, whether they belonged to this district or not. For thoso men belonging to this district who have returned invalided suitable provision has been made according to their circumstances. Some have received a complete outfit, and others are being paid £1 a week for a, time until they are able to take up their work again ; while assistance is also being rendered to relative^ of troopers where such is needed. The funds in the hands of the committee are available to assist, not only those invalided home, but relatives dependent upon those of our men who lose their lives. In any cases of this description coming before the committee full inquiry will be made, and immediate assistance afforded. It in understood that full provision will be made by the Government for the invalided

and wounded, and those who are dependent on the men who fall, but the funds in the hands of the committee will be used to render immediate assistance and to supplement any allowance made by the Government later.
