"Advance," of the New Zealand Mail, has forgotten to acknowledge that the article in his column about the late Mr John Stcphenbon v/as taken from my page. I <_ro not propose to pay him out, since the omission, was no doubt an oversight, and I admit that the following is cut from hi.-, news: — The Colonial Secretary has allotted the following 23 totalisator permits to trotting clubs for the season : New Brighton one., Auckland two, Otahuhu one, South Wairirapa one, JBawke's Bay one, Alafterton one, Wellington one, Westporfc one, Greyiaouth two, Nelson one, Inangahua one, Canterbury one, Plumpton. Park one, New Zealand three, Ashburton two, and Tahuaa Park three. The ai-plications of Temuka and Southland ?.re under consideration, but the probabilities are that both will be granted. This leaves one permit yet to be a'lofcted. The Wellington. Trotting Club has, been granted two less, and Ihe Auckland, Ol.j nhu, and Plumpton Clubs each one less than z'ue Trotting Conference recommended. >Thu permits allotted to racing club? are the same a a the previous year, with the exception that the Northern Wairoa Club takes the place of "Yvhangarei.
