CLEARING SALE.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company report having held a clearing sale of draught horses, farming implements, etc., at Mr James Thomson's, Balclutha, on Friday, February 23. Mr Thomson is in the habit of calling a sale of his surplus stock every season just before harvesting, and this one was in accordance with his usual custom. That this is a very satisfactory time to hold such a sale was demonstrated by the prices ruling last" Friday, which were remarkably good for anything of a superior class, as^, indeed, they were for- everything offered. Firstclass mares sold to £50; geldings, to £40. .They offered 29 draughts (mares and geldings), and
19 light horses, the latter of which also sold well, at prices much in advpnee of those ruling at last year's sale, this fact being attributable to an increased demand for this class of horses J ior military purposes. Drays, harness, etc., j sold at prices quite in keeping with the above. J
