SALE OF THE PRIZE CLYDESDALE FILLY, LADY M'ARTHUR.
Messrs Wright, Stephenson, and Co., us agents for Mr James Drain, Waianiwa, report the sale at a fancy price of his noted prize Clydesdale filly, Lady M' Arthur, to Mr James Patrick, of West Taieri. Lady M'Arthur is rising three years old, and is by the famous stud horse M'Arthur, by M'Bride (2987), bred by Mr A. Montgomery, of Netherhall, Castle Douglass, winner of first prizes at Glasgow and Kilmarnock, and numerous first prizes in Victoria. M'Arthur's grand-sire, Macgregor (1487), one of the champion breeding stallions in Scotland, and full brother to the famous Flashwood, and his great-grand-sire was the invincible Darnley (222), the greatest breeding horse of his day. M'Arthur, the sire of Mr Drain's filly, Lady M'Arthur, has been exhibited 35 times, and has gained 82 first and champion prizes, two seconds, and one third — a record unbeaten in Australasia. Lady M'Arthur's dam, Maggie, is by Ivanhoe (imp.), and her grand-dam, Bess, is by Lord Darnley, etc. It is generally admitted that in this purchase Mr Patrick has secured one of the best Clydesdale fillies ever bred in the colony.
