KAITANAGATA .

September 19. — The eleventh annual general meeting of members of the Kaitangata Company's Employees' Benefit Society was held on Monday evening. The vice-president (Mr D. Marshall) occupied the chair, and there was_ a fair attendance of members. The, following report of the retiring committee was read and adopted without dissent: — "The Eleventh Annual Report of the Kaitangata Eailway and Coal Company's Employees' Benefit Society. "The committee, in submitting their report pfor the year ending 31st August 1898, have to state that owing to the great amount of sickI ness prevalent the disbursements for the year have been very heavy — namely, £254 2s lOd, or exceeding the contributions by £42 Is 4d. This caused the committee to draw £50 from tho fixed deposit account. However, the committee are pleased to state that in addition to the £B0 still on deposit, there is also a balance of £33 14a Id, or equal to £83 14s Id, to the. credit of the society. "In accordance with instructions issued from last annual meeting, the annual social of members was held on Friday evening, 9th September. The meetings of committee have been well attended, and an activ« interest taken by members in the society's business. In accordance with the rules the committee retire, but are eligible for re-election." The balance sheet showed— Eeceipts : To balance, £23 13s lid; contributions, £212 Is 6d; transferred from fixed deposit, £50; interest, £3 10s; total, £289 5s sd. Expenditure: By sick allowance, £244 0s 4d; funeral allowance, £5; secretary's allowance, £3 3s; cheque books, etc., 19s 6d; hire of hall, 10s; interest, 10s; balance, £35 2s 7d; total, £289 5s sd. Assets: Fixed deposit in National Bank, £50; cash in ban V £35 2s 7d; total, £85 2s 7d. Liabilities: Cheques drawn, but not presented, £1 8s 6d; balance of assets over liabilities, £83 14s Id; total, £85 2s 7d. The following officebearers were elected for the ensuing year- — President, Mr W. M. Shore; vice-pre-President, Mr W. M. Shore; viee-pre-Joseph Shore; treasurer, Mr P. Welsh; committee — Messrs R. Statham, C. Penman, J. Donaldson, E. Rogers, and James Thomson; auditors, Messrs A. Duff and J. Welsh. Votes i of thanks to the retiring committee terminated the meeting.
