SHEEP TAX.

The amount received from sheep tax for the year ended March 31, 1898, jjvas £20,303. The amount expended in the inspection of stock during the same period was £15,113 5s 7d, and in the destruction of rabbits £15,350 10s 6d. The inspectors of stock also administer the Rabbit Nuisance Act, and a proportion of their salaries and travelling expenses has to be debited to the destruction of rabbits, but it is stated that the amounts cannot be separated.
