The lot moved away in line, Waihine s head just showing in front as they sailed down the dip, with Cromaboo alongside, and Waterloo last. Racing to the mile post, Waihine and Cromaboo cleared out from the others, the pair passing this point with a four lengths' lead of Lochuanita, after whom came Prince Carbine and Shaughraun, with the others strung out. Except that Shaughraun made up nis ground, there was little alteration along the back and round by the railway, where Cromaboo tired,- and Shaughraun ran up second, Waihine leading into the straight. In the run home, however, Shaughraun outstayed her, and won by a neck; then four lengths away came Ailie, followed by Nevermore and P.N., with Fitzroy and The Captain last. Time, 2min 31sec.
