Mir 30.— Winter has fairly set in ; and the lurrounding hills are capped with snow, but it Is an ill wind that blows nobody good, and the Kaitangata Coal Company nave, owing to increased demand, found It imperative to employ a second shift of men. The management, however, is seriously interfered with in complying with orders owing to the iniuflicienl supply of railway trucks. Death. -Or. Thursday last the news of the sudden druth of Mr W. T. Smith caused a deep feeling a regret. In tha death ot Mr Smith (.his dfs'Tict has been robbed of one of its ornaments, and one who leaves behind him «,n unblemished record. He occupied many positions, not so much In recent year? as in the old provincial days.
