MISS HASTILY SOUTH SEAS EXPEDITION.

The Sydney Belle, which has been chartered by Miss Hasfcie for an exploring expedition in the Pt cific, arrived to-dsy. Miss Ha3tie is a lady of considerable means «nd an enthusiastic amateur scientist, and the whole expedition will be under ier personal direction. Tbe cruise, is expected to cx:end over eighfc or nine rnou;ns, and it is proposed to undertake nearly every ordinary branch of scientific research. C jocUolo^y will not be neglected, and a lady named MitsPcinee will accompany tbe party as botaDist. lilt C. S..Wedenby will take observations in the meteorological department, and, being also an anthropologist, hopes to obtain some interesting skeletcns and other records. In addition to ordinary scientific methods of investigation thecxprditi'on is taking quite a nov^l depsrtcre. Tbe party will have, with ths-in several most improved phonographs, with which ib is intended to obtain records of native languages. Several of the laresfc photographic appliances for taking cinema* ographe pictures will also be among the apparatus. Mr Haddleslon, formerly of Mount Oook Hermitage, is going ah naturalist and collector. Altogether the party, without the CRptaiu of the vessel (Captain Warne) and crew, will r<ucnber some 15 or 16 persons.
