THE KENNEL.

[Fancieri and breeders of dogs are eordiillj In ntoa to contribute Items to this column. " Terror " will endeavour to mak« his department as interesting and up-to-date as possible, but in order to do this he must have the 00-operatiou of tils readers j hence he trusts this invitation will be cheerfully reiponaed to.]

NOTES B£ TERROR

— The date of the show is definitely fixed for August 19 and 20, and it is to ba held in the Agricultural HaJi. The oommittee have decided upon adding to their schedule an extra section in the shape of cats, giving them 15 classes ; also a class for children's peti, and by way of encouragement have promised to pay the whole of the entry money ia this class as prize money.

— judges are elected for the various daises as follow : — Poultry, MeaKrs Cooper, Robertson, Eason, and Bennett ; pigeons, Mr H G. Williams ; canaries. Mr J. Jenkins ; dogs, Messrs J. M'Ghie, D. A. R. M'Ewan, and L. Mari&cher; oats, Mr R. Watson ; children's pets, Mr R. Ferguson.

— The committee has satisfactorily arranged with the various poultry societies es to the dates of their show so as not to clash, as has too often occurred ia the past.

— The schedule, which contains full particulars of the New Zealand Kennel Club rules, will, I understand, be ready in the course of a few days and posted to exhibitors.

— The litter of pups by Heather Pluck ex New Faith reported upon by me about nine months ago are now about 12 months old, and I looked them up again last week, One of them, Heather Dow — just recovering from distemper when I saw him — promises to he a very fine dog. Mr Hayne appears to think that he will come little short of a sensation at the show, and perhaps he will.

— Heather Dew is much like his aire in general build and contour, but differs in colour, being sable and white. He carries an excellent coat, ha» a beautiful collie expression, fairly long face, shapely limbs, rather long in body, and has a well-carried tail. Owing to his condition, he has the appearance just now of being rather loosely put together, and his ears appeared to ma rather far back and his feet opsn ; but when in health ppssibly he may knit up generally, and justify Mr Hayne's expects tions.

— All the rest of the litter looked charming, one bitch in particular, her only fault being a very jauntily-carried tail.

— Considering the blood in his kennels— Heather Pluck, Pearl of Cree, and New Faith, the latter being full sister to First Shot — it should not be surprising if Mr Hayne were to. produce something good by-and-bye.

— Mr Hayne has also a very promising yonng deerbound by his bitch Mona to the Australian imported dog Lord Moray, son of champion Swift, the best of his breed in the world. This pup is unnamed as yet, is six months old, and in Mr Hay no's opinion promises better ,than any of the breed he has reared so far. — There were three other pups of the same litter running about, and one in hospital suffering from dis£&mper. His hindquarters were paralysed, aad when I saw him he was very far gone, bat Mr Hayne had put a setoo through his neck, and seemed hopeful •« to his recovery.

— Messrs Barnard and Co. are parting with their kennel of retrievers. Mr Bowie, of Pleasant Point, ha 3 taken Rewi Shot, by Bewi ex Rewi Queen. Rewi Queen is by Rewi Lad out of C. B. Nell.

— They have also sold Kewi Victor, full litter brother to Rewi Queen, to Mr W. R. Morris, of Wellington. This dog is just 12 months old, and promises to eclipse anything of his kind in the colony. v He has a rery good head and ears, and when in condition an excellent coat, good body and legs, and very fair feet. Ho is * very big deg, though so well put together that one requires to put the tape over him to realise his size.

— This famous kennel will coon be a thing of the past, for breeders even in tho most distant colonies are freely inquiring for the dogs.
