Mr Chamberlain's love of the orchid is responsible for the following : — Daring the progress of a political meeting ia the provinces, at which Mr Chamberlain spoke, an old man of the labouring class pushed his way to the front and asked an acquaintance : - " Which i« 'im ?"— " Who ?" •' That clean-shaved chip theer ; 'im with the eyeglass," responded the one addressed. "Is that Chamberlain ? " slowly ejaculated the querist, in a disappointed tone. "Of course it is. What do 'c think of 'im, eh ? " " Whoy, I think 'c's a reg'lar fraud. That's wot I tbiuks." His companion at once entered upon a spirited defence of the politician. " I knows uothin' about politics," remarked the labourer, pushing hia way to the door. " They &aid as 'c wore a little orchard in his button-ole, and — theer ! — it ain't nawb but a tater-blossom ! "
