FEDERATION CONVENTION.
m MANIFESTO OF THE LABOUR PARTY. Sydney, February 2. The Labour party's Federation election manifesto declares for one House of Legislature, one adult vote, the payment of members, elective Ministers, and the referendum. The party consider that State rights can only be safeguarded by defining and consolidating the powers of the provincial Legislatures, and under any other conditions oppose Federation. February 5. At the request of a deputation representing all sects Cardinal Moran has consented to become a candidate for*- the Federal Convention, as he deemad it to be a duty he owes to Australian patriotism. He said one of the main duties of the Federal Government should be to organise Ihe military and naval defences, and that the Australian fleet should be subject to the control of the Federal Government was of paramount importance. Rabbi Davis supports the cardinal's candidature.
