BENEVOLENT INSTITUTION TRUSTEES.

The ordinary meeting of the Benevolent Institution Trustees, held on the 3rd, was attended by Messrs A. Solomon (chairman), H. Gourley, James Green, B. Watson. R. Wilson, and W. Swan. An apology for the abftence of Mr Colin Allan was received. Accounts amounting to £32? la 2d were passed fo&payment. The Secretary reported the death of the following inmates durine the week :— John Joyce, aged 72, Christopher Howard, aged 73; and Dennis Lynch, aged 77. The expenditure in connection with the outdoor relief during the past month, the Secretary reported, was as follows :— There were 460 cases relieved, representing 202 men, 343 women, and 785 children, the cost of relieving whom was £129 Vs. The figures for the corresponding month of

last year were :— 479 cases, representing 191 men, 373 women, and 936 children, the cost of relief being £146 8s 6d. The Chairman expressed his pleasure at being in a position to announce that the expenditure in groceries for outdoor relief was Bteadily decreising. In August of last year the amount spent under this head was £168 ; in September, £134 , in October, £124 ; in November. £145 (representing j fire weeks' expenditure) ; in December, £112 . and ; during last month. £93.
