TUTURAU.
January 22.— The summer now drawing to a close has been an exceptionally dry and hot one for this part of the Country — : other too dry, in fact, to suit the farmers, as the grain crops are very short. Most of the farmers are now busy thinning the turnips, which are rather later this year than usual, owing to the dry weather. During last week the heat was excessive, but for the last few days it has been rathor col-1, with occasional showers of rain. Bot Flies.— These pests have been very plentiful this season, and have annoyed the horses a great deal during the hot weather. Factory.— lt is rumoured that the advisability of erecting a dairy factory for the district is to be again discussed at a meeting to be held shortly. It is to be hoped that this attempt will meet with- more success than the last one, aa there is no doubt that a factory would be a great benefit to the settlers.
