MARKET REPORT.
Messrs Edward Thomas and Co., wool, sheepskin, rabbitskin, hide, and hair merchants, Bond street, report as follows :—
Rabbitskios — Autumn skins are now coming to hand more freely, and have advanced in price in sympathy with the improved quality. Summers and early autumns continua to tell well at rates lately current. Prime autumns and early winters are worth 9d to lOd ; fair to good autumns, 7d to B£d ; autumns and summers (mixed), 6d to 7d ; summers, 5d to 6d j half grown, 3d to 4}d ; suckera, 24 to 3d net. We have large orders for all descriptions *
Hide*.— We are doing an increased business iv this line, an' 1 are prepared to take any quantity at extreme prices. As many consignments of country-hides come to hand in a more or lei.B elipy condition, we take this opportunity to point out that it is a great mistake to fold or roll them up until it is intended to send them to market, for by so doing the salt, which has not had time to melt and soak into tbe hide, Is detached from many of the parts, which consequently become slipy and otherwise out of condition.
Hides in the first instance should be carefully taken off and then laid out. flat on a dry floor, one on top of tbe other, and each thoroughly well salted, and allowed to remain in that position until sent away fon sale, when they should be rolled up flesh side out, and not hair out aa is u«ual in this country. Beforo the stack is commenced it is well to place a piece of timber under it so as to allow the hides to drain.
