• Fat Cat! le.— The pens this week were pretty well filled, but not with "killable" cattle. The total number yarded was 220, but less than half of that oumbor was suitable for the trade. The 6»'.e was a very dragging one throughout, two extra prime bullocks— the one from Keith Hall and the other from Greenfield —being tbe only exceptions where bidding could be called " lively. Fat Sheep — Ad average supply came to band, 2331 being penned The tona of the market was decidedly more healthy than It has been of late, and prices all round were in the sellers' favour. The proportion of prime wethers forward was not | great, and in consequence those having this class in the market will receive very good returns for their consignments. Both properties were keenly competed for and realised very satisfactory prices.— The Mutual Asency Compant of New ZbaLand (Limited) report having held their usual monthly sale at Palmerston on Tuesday, when a large' number of farmers, &c. were present, and met a good entry, especially of sheep, which sold readily at prices as follow t—. Six and eight-tooth ewes at 9s 2d, two • tooth (medium) ewes and wethers at 7s 9d to Bs, merino ewes and wethers to ss, cows to £5, steers and heifers (two to three years old) at £2 to £3 10 a. Waikouaiti Sale.— On the Ist of May they held their usual sale at the Corporation yard*, where again a Urge entry was made, and a great number of settlers were in attendance, nearly every lot being cleared at prices satisfactory to vendors and the agents. — Messrs Dalgety and Co. (Limited) report having held (ft sale of store sheep and cattle at Caid wells yards, Wedderburn, on Friday, May 1. There was a very large attendance of buyers, and the sale was one of the most successful held this season. Oro*sbred wethers for- tnrnips were in great demand, as were also crossbred lambs; and merino ewes also came in for a good share of attention. Young cattle were particularly inquired for, and the prices realised vrera highly satisfactory. We sold : Crossbred and halfbred wethers at 7s to 9s, ' crossbred Umba (Bmall) at 4s Bd, merino ewes at 4s to 4* 2d, two and three-year-old steers for turnips at £4 10« to £4 16s. 18 months and two-year-old steers at £2 6s to £3 6s, do at ' £2 5s to £1 17s 6d, horses, spring carts, harness, Ac., at .satisfactory prices. Store Cattle.— Transactions in this line are limited to - very forward bullocks suitable tor turnip feeding, but of this class sot many are offering. '„ Store Sheep. — Forward-conditioned crossbred wethers are in demand, selling readily at from 9a to 9s 6d for good lots ; for anything extra up- to 10s has been .paid. For good crowbrtd lambs there is also gome Inquiry^ and any suitable lots ' qffering are easily placed. Public sale 3 are now pretty 'well over for the season.— The Farmers' Agency Company op New Zealand (Limited) said by auction and privately during the week 6802, as follows :—2OO crossbred wethers at 9s, 200 do lambs at 9s 6d, 466 do at Bs, 115 do at 6s 4d, 115 do at 6s 2d, 74 do at 6s 2d; 255 crossbred wethers (twotooth) at 9a, 350 do at 9* Bd, 475 do at 8s sd. 1203 crossbred wether* at lla, 1032 do ewes (four-tooyh) at 10-!, 1634 do (two-tooth) at 9s 6d, 600 merino wether* at 4s 6d, 83 Jambs at 7s 7d. Since the 'opetting day there has been little, if any, alteration in quotations, while trade in the great wool,.'centre— Bradford — is practically at iv standstill. It is to be hoped, howovar, that when the great shortage in the Australasian clip becomes manifest'to the Home manufacture w, tmces will recover somewhat. Locally, fortnigbfciy sales of bags and oddments are held. At tlfese there is good competition and a liigc attendance of buyers, but a decline of 5 ta 74 per ccut. has to be recorded. / .

•Sheepskins.— Small catalogues were submitted At tbe sales iv the Chamber of Commerce thU week, and although the local buyers were all present and competition was good up to a certain point, skins on tho whole may be quoted 2J to 5 per cent, lower than UlO.-rat.e3 ruling ou the previous Tuesday. Quotations : Green crossbreefs, 2a 3d to 3s 3d ;- do lamb?, 2s 3d to 3s 4d ; dry cmsabreda, 2s to -5s SA ; do merinos. Is 3d to 8a lid ; do pelts, 4d to Is 2d. ■ Kabbitikins —As uaual at this time of the year "Mnalt'cataloeuea are offered at the weekly s^les. This week's sales were no exception. Buyers attend regularly in full force and compete eagerly ier evejything s <>ffered up to prices which m view >f recent returns from London, leave no margin of profit to the shipper. The recent decline in values reported from London is doubtless due to the enormous shipments of " common " skins that are Being poured into that market ftom Australia. Values at the local sales thiß week ranged as follows :— Prime autumn and early winter greye, BJd to 9id per lb; ordinary autumnjjreya, 7d to $3 per lb; summer grcyn, 4Jd tood per lb; Buokers and 1 miners, 2^d to 3jd per lb.

All lots of heavy hides are readily saleable at 3d to 3Jd per lb for extra stout and 2Jd to 8d per lb for ordinary heavies ; light, l}d to 2Jd ; inferior, Id to l£d. - Tallow.-- -The supply is still small and values teniaiu as quoted last week — viz. : Prime rendered, 17s to 18s ; medium, l4s to 16s ; inferior, \ JJs 6'l to 13* ; rough fat, 9s to 12s. I Orain —Wheat: There in still a good Jem and, especially for piime milling, which is readily sold »'t rates cqu^l to these obtainable last week Velvets are scarce and wanted. These realise the hljihest prices— via. : Prime milling velvet, 3a 7Jd to 3s 8d ;. milling Tuscan brings 3a 4d to 3s 6d. Fowls' wheat is in large supply, and prices for this are, if anything, slightly easier. Beat brings 38 ljd to 3s 2d; medium, 2s lOd to 3s ldj^inferior, 2s 8d to 2s M (sacks in). Oats are coming Into Ouuedin in large quantities, but most lots are for storing, consequently the supply, available for sbippeh) is very limited, and we are glad co be able to quote an advance in- Values of nearly Id per bushel since last week. Potatoes— Supplies bave been somewhat heavy this week, but prices remain unchanged. Best. Derwents are worth £2 12s 6d to £2 15s ; medium to efood, £2 7a 6d to £2 10 a per ton (sacks in).
