' «OSB. May s.—The. —The wnaihir' is extremely damp and changeable, and could not be called more than i " fair to middling." I Winter Show —This affair is to be held on the 29th and 30th of this month. The committee are aotively at work making the necessary arrangements. Of course early entries by farmer* will greatly facilitate matters. On the 29th the dog triul will be held in Mr Coutt's paddock, and no doubt there will be many competitors. Convent School.— L»st Wednesday the children of this school gave an entertainment in the Town Hall. The public patronage was most gratifying, and the hall was filled by an enthusiastic audience. The pupils acquitted themselves admirably, not only in singing, but also- in recitation and drill. They were assisted by Miss O'Neill, of Milton, who sang two solos. Messrs T/ J. Anthony- and W. D. Smith, of JTnvercargill, brought down the house with their very amusing comic songs. Mr Smith also _pon- ■ tributsd "The last mister" and "Queen of j the earth " Miss Robertson sang " Nea " with I much .tcuPitUiu'e, and altogether the musical p)rtion was highly satisfactory. Miss Dunne, of B-ilnlii'ha., played " The wearing of the green" as a pianoforte sold, and also accompanied the singers moßt efficiently. The farce "Ici on Parle Francaia," by young ladies connected with the church choir, was the principal item at the closes. The recitations by some of the very juvenile scholars proved very iuteiesting, and showed csreful training. * Electric Light —The material for carrying the light over to East Gore is coming to hand, and in a short time the old kerosene lamps will be forgetten.
