THE BRUNNER DISASTER.
.ADMINISTERING THE FUND. Wellington, April 30. The Premier haa issued the following circular to mayors of boroughs aud chairmen of local authorities throughout the oolony •«— • "With a view to facilitating matters in connection with the Brunner mining disaster fund I have, at the suggestion of contributors and well-wishers of the movement, convened a conference, to be held at Wellington on BI«y 14, for the purpose of deciding upon the following.: (a) To diecuss the question of appointing permanent trustees to administer the funds collected throughout the colony, or the alternative of placing the administration of the matter in the bands of the Pablic Trustee ; (b) if it is decided to appoint permanent trustees, to select them; (c) investment of funds, and to define the trust ; (d) the nature of the relief to bi given to sufferers ; («) to discuss generally and decide upon matters affecting tiro fund aud well-being of sufferers by the sad disaster. Yoar district iq, invited to appoint and send delegates to attend the conference, or if, from grounds of economy or from other caus°s, it is incouvonient for a delegate to corns from your district, contributors are invited to appoint or nominate one from elsewhere to 'represent them at the said conference. The person appointed as delegate should bring with him or her, as ! the case may be, the written 'authority of -the committee, or otherwise notify tbe Premier that the person named has been appointed." Timatiu, April 30. j At a meeting of the B runner Relief Committee ! all but a few smalllisti were in. The' amount wass reported to bs : — Casb, £522 ; clothing. £45 (clothing and £43 already stnt) ; plus £23 collected conditionally on the whole going totlse present' sufferers. On a suggestion from Danedin & delegate was appointed to attend a conference at Wellington re the appointment of trustees and a scheme of distribution, with instruction that the committee wish the whole fund, capital as well bs interest, to be devoted 'to the Brunner sufferers. Ou a suggestion from Chrietehurch it was resolved to send all collections to the treasurer at Caristohurch to make a ger-eral'Oanterbury fund.
