The outbreak took plase between the decks under the forward house, and was discovered when the ship was 75 mile 3 from laad It had then a good hold, and a course »* «= .peel for Port Stephens. All the air iuby.. ft'cie blocked, and holes were cat ia the deck. Through these large quantities of water were poured, and on reaching Port Stephens the fire waa sufficiently subdued to allow of the - vessel being towed here, when the fire was quickly extinguished. The hold is badly scorched, and the -.cargo damaged. This is another of the many recent oatas of the heating of oargoes by spontaneous combiwtion. ' Messrs Parker & Laird, of Hillsdale, write t " Our Mr Laird having occasion to Tint Scotland, and knowing the excellent qualities of the Canadian Healing Oil, concluded to take soma with him, and the result has been very astonirfi* ing.
