HORNSBY-ACKROYD OIL ENGINE.

Messrs Murray, Roberts, and Co., who have been appointed agents in Otago for this engine, held a very interesting trial in their Stafford street; premises on Saturday evening, in the presence of the Hon. J. G. Ward and a large number of other gentlemen. The engine— a new 2-£ brake h.p.— was used for driving a dynamo, by means of which the 'building was brilliantly lighted, and at intervals an electric fan ventilator was alto pub in motion. All those present expressed themselves highly pleased with the capabilities of the engine, and there is no doubt that as soon as these become more widely known a large demand will spring ob— more esDOoially in country districts where

coal is not readily obtainable. The engine itself is a marvel of simplicity, and requires no more attention than a gas engine, whioh it very much resembles. It is also perfectly safe, there being no danger from fire, which should be a great recommendation to mill owners and farmers ; while the saving in time in starling, as against steaob, is also a great advantage— the Hornsby oil engine being easily started in from five to six minutes. The motive power is supplied by petroleum or kerosene oil, and tha cost of working in, roughly speaking, Id per brake horse-power per hoar. .Messrs Murray, Roberts, and Co. intend holding several further trials this weak, which all interested in obtaining cheap motive power are invited to attend. It may be added Jihat the Hornsby engine received fi»t prizes for botu portable and, stationary oil engines at the Eoyal Agricultural Society's trials at Cambridge in 1894.
