Messrs Duncan and MacQregor, instructed by Robert Charters, wrote requesting tbe council to clean out the ditch on Duke's road, bounding his property.— The Ohaieman said the oleaniog out of this ditch was nothing in itself, but it would form a precedent. Mr Chapman informed him thut a test t eate which had recently been decided proved conclusively that the council were not liable to maintain drains. — GkvSnow : If we start cleaning out one drain we will have to clean out every drain throughout the Taieri. — After further discussion it was decided to grant the application. Mr John Bathgate wrote applying for a sub sidy on £6 collected for o'e»ning out a drain past Jansen's.— Referred to the clerk to fettle if the conditions with -regard to carrying out the work had been complied with. Mr R. Turner wrote offering to lease the Green Island Quarry reserve.— lit' was decided to take steps to have the quarry ve3ted in the council. y Mr 'John 801 l wrote with reference to providing a new road to his property at Whare - Flat, and offering to assist if the council woold take the matter in hand. — The clerk was instructed to ask Mr Bell what amount he was prepared to give towards the work. ! Messrs J. and T. Robert63U wrote offering gravel for the repair of the Kmd between their propetjiy and -Milaer's. — Referred to Cr Oughton to report. > Mr William Thomson wrote applying for 50 y*rds of metal for the road from the creamery to his property, Allantoa, and offering to cart tbe same lor .la per y»rd. — It wm resolved to take no action in the matter in the meantime. ■ The Barewood Quartz Mining Company wrote asking for permission to pub a wire across the T»ieri river in block VII, Nenthorn Survey district. — It. was resolved that the application be grnnted at next meeting, subject to no objections beiug received, and that Mr Hay reports favourably on the applioation ; all expenses to be defrayed by the applicant*; work to be completed to the satisfaction of the engineer. . Thompson and nine ratepayers wrote requesting that the road from Otakia jail way station to Orakia bridge be - mei;»lled, und offering to give 12 days' cartiDg — It was resolved that the council provide metal to the extent of £25, provided the eettlera did the carting. | Mr Allan Mann and 10 ratepayers at Woodside wrota asking that the road from the school to the flour and saw mills at Woodside bs gravelled. — It was resolved that tenders be i called tor 300yda of gravel, to be divided | between Mill road and Fulton's road, Wood- j side ; tenders to be opened by Crs Snow aßd Chißholm. Mr Thomas Holland and six ratepayers in West Taieri district wrote asking tbat the road from the creamery to the junction of the road leadiug to Maungatua be metalled. — The work is provided for in the allocation. O'Eourke, Is 3d per yard. Only one tender was received for the supply of labour for repairing the Allanton bridge, and it was decided to call for fresh tenders. The hank book showed a debit balance of £3268 5s lid. Accounts amounting to £433 16? Id were passed for payment.
