| TiIEEI COUNTY COUNCIL. An ordinary meeting of the Taieri County Council, held on Friday, was attended by the Chairman (Mr J. Graham), Crs Chiaholm, Snow, SatosßD, Todd, Oughton, and Harrison. Cr Nicol wrote asking to be excused from i attending the meeting in consequence of an | injury to his kuee. I ALLOCATION OF FUNDS. A statement ol estimated receipts and expenditure for the ensuing year, together with a proposed allocation of general funds, was considered and adopted, with the addition of a proviiion of £50 for bridge* in tho StrathTaieri district. A summary of the statement was published in the report of the last meeting of the council. INSPECTOR'S BKFOR.T. The County Inspector J. Wbyte) reported, inter alia, as follows : — Bridges.— Lake bridge, which is 87ft x 12ft, requires a new duck ; 3150 superficial feet of black pine will co«t about J824. Fulton's bridge (Woodside) : The deck of tbis bridge ix very far through. I would recommend its being sheeted with 2in timber as tho best way of repairing it. It would require 540 ft. at a cost of about £5. B Drain Box.— The top of the box under the '"roadway is very much decayed, and is liable to collapse at any time. I would like the counoil's opinion about it, as there may be an accident if it is allowed to collapse. Reports.— Be Duncan. M'Donald's request for road deviation' at Hindon village* settlement, I have examined the place and find that the deviation would be a great improvement on the present road, if terms can be made with the owner. The land required would be about one acre,' and the cost of forming the road (10 chains) £25. There it another way of improving the preaent road, by cuttiug 3ft off the hill and puttiug 6ft on I the present embankment. The cost would.be about the same Jte Nolan's Road.— l have measured the work, and find that Mr Nolan has done sufficient work for the amount claimed, although the work is somewhat different to the formation usually done in the county. A few alteratious aye required, which Mr Nolan ha>- promised to cany out. I understand that the owner of the sectiona through which the road leads to the county pit at Allanton is averse to the gravel for Hastie's road being taken out that vra,y. I would suggest that the councir»ik Mr Thomas Christie for the use of the tr<>ck for this contiact, as the contractors are not a •.-.<* re of any change. Thera would b3 s.-mo difficulty in making a road from the street line. Jte the Green Island Quarry.— As metal is becoming very scarce and inferior in the district, there is an unlimited supply of stone in the absve quarry, which I think should bo vested in the county council, when satisfactory arrangements could ba made to supply the county and the general public with good stone at a considerably oheaper rate than the present cost of metal. It was resolved tbat tenders be called for the renewal of the deck to tbe Laks bridge, on the Henley-Berwick road ; that the repairs recommended for Fulton's bridge at Woodside be put in hand ; that ihe repairs to the B drain box be carried out by the inspector ; that Mr Tuos Christie be requested to allow the contractor for gravel on Hastie's road to pass over hu sections to the county gravel pit ; and that willows be placed oh the edge of the Wsipori river, above Robinson's embankment. knginbbb's repobt. Mr R Hay, county engineer report* d having inipected tbe road crossing at the Waipori river, near Mr Robineon's property at Berwick. The roadline had been washed away, and he recommended that the council purchase land from Mr Robinson for a road. During the discussion that ensued upon the readirg of the report, The CHAntM^Nssid all tbe council were agreed thftt £1000 wat too much for the land, and Mr Robinson said he would take nothing less. The question now was whether the council efcctdd
