REGULATIONS UNDER THE STOCK ACT.

By Order-in-Council the new regulations under " The' Ssook Act 1895 " provide that the introduction into New Zealand from (he colonies of Queensland, New'Soubh Wales, Victoria, South Australia, and Western Australia of all cattle and sheep, and also of fresh meat (with the exception of frozen .meat), bones, .horns, hoofs, hair, hides, skins, offal, or other part of any tush animals, and of all articles which h&ve been used in the transport of any such anjmals, is hereby absjlutely prohibited, except under the following conditions : — (a) Cattle may be landed if accompanied by a declaration by the owner and a certificate by a veterinary surgeon, and shall be sUbjecb to quarantine for 90 dayß : provided, however, that vessels en route to foreign poets with Australasian horses, j cattle, . or sheep on board may call at the port of Wellington for coal, and while there remain at a distance of not less than half ■ a mile from the shore, subject to the like conditions as are .prescribed by regulation ; (b) sheep (except from Western Australia, which are prohibited) may be landed, accompanied by a certificate of a veterinary surgaon that they are free from disease, subject to quarantine for a period of 30 days ; (c) artificial manures may be landed, bub those composed of or containing blood or bones, or bones digested but unciushed, must be accompanied by a declaration from the owner, secretary, or manager of the works where treatsd that they have been subjected to a heat of at least of 451b indicated steam pressure — equal to 274 deg Fahrenheit. All artificial manures and bones to be pub up in naw bags ; (d) bones in raw or green and unerushed state may be l«.nd<-.d and taken direct from the ship's sidj to manure works and there subjected to a he it from steam of at le*st 4-51b pressure per square mch — equal to 274d^g Fahrenheit. Th>i bags in whicih such taw or green bones are received must be either immediately destroyed or thoroughly boiled before " again being u*ed ; (c) hides m&y b« landed if from cattle slaughtered for human consumption or boiling down, and not from any animal* which have died from contagious or infections dis°ase, such hides to be thoroughly salted or otherwise chemically preserved.
