, The very largesb'piece of gold ever found was discovered by two miners named Byer and Haltraan, at Hill End; New South Wales, on May 10, 1872. It weighed 6*011) and sold for £28,000. The miners were living on food which they begged when they discovered their ready- las de fortune.
The " Welcome Stranger " was found in 1869. It weighed 1901b, and was raffled for £1 a< chance. Tbe driver of a baker's carb won it ' and sold it for £15\O0O. The " Welcome " was : found 11 jears before. It was worth £14-, 500, was raffled at £1 per time, and was won by a little ercaud.boy in a barber's shop.
A runaway sailor found the " Uncle Jack " nugget. It weighed over 231b. The sailor sold it for £1200, wh'cH he speutiu about tour weeks.
A little boy playing at gold-mining found tha •' No Name" nuggtstf. He got £1400 for it.
