DUNEDIN JOCKEY CLUB.
The monthly meeting of c- mmittee held Ia?l Thursday nas attended by the Hon. George M'Lean (chair), Messrs • Mecuaii, Tfggarb, H^zlett, Lintott, Sbo;t, Maclean, Guurley, StephendOD, and Cook. CORRESPONDENCE A letter was received from the Lumsden Jockey Olub, in reply to the D J.C, in eipla» nation of their disquiHGcation, of tho hone Redletp, and stating that to injmtica had been done to Mr O'Toole, the present owner of tka horse.— Received. The transfer of the bay filly by Medallion— Huguenot from Mr J. F. Reid to Mr 343 4 LoHghlin wai passed. THE MAY MEETING. Mr H. J. Gourl«y was appointed starter for the Muy meeting. Resolved — " That bookmakers and tote bettors be not allowed on the course at the May meeting." . Revolved — " That the outside twtalis&to* tickets be issued at 10s, and that any owner running two or more horses in the same race they be bracketed together on the totalisttors." TOTALIBATOH PERMITS. A. letter was read from the Tahuxm Park Trotting and Racing Club stating that they had . submitted the programme of their May meeting, and that the sune haviDg been pawed by the D J.C. they had applied in the usual way to the Government for a totalis&tor license. They had received from the Colonial Secretary tho usual bond to fill in before licences were issued. This was returned to Wellington on 10th April. The license not having arrived by the 25th they telegraphed to the Colonial Secretary asking if it had been granted, and received the following reply on the same day :~~» " H. James,' secretary Tahuna Trotting Club, Dunedin, — Tbiee totalisator licenses were allotted to trotting clubs in Otago, and two of these hava been issued to your club ; the third license will probably be required for the Dunedin Amateur Trotting Club. — Hugh - Pollen, Wellington." On receipt of the above they replied : "Dunedin Amateur dab not ia existence now. Metropolitan allotted as three meetings aad passed programme ; no other clubs here."
A telegram w»s also forwarded direct from the Sftcret&ry of the Dunedin Amateur Club
stating that they did not require the lioanf e, as the club was not now in existence. Not having
received & reply to the l«sj) application the . Tahuna Club asked the D J.C. to telegraph to the Colonial Secretary that they were entitled to the license. — Resolved to request the Colonial Secretary to grant tha licenfe. A letter was received from the Southland Trottitig Club submitting a programme for
approval, and asking that the same be passed and permission given to ran upon the Southland Racing Club's course. This club is not on the list as entitled to a totalisator license, bnt they forwarded a letter from the Lumsden Eaoing Club stating they would not use their license this season, and were willing that the Southland Trotting Club should use same. In this care the number of licenses for Otago would not be increased. — Resolved to recommend that the request be granted, A similar applic&tion wao received from the Gore Trotting Club, who had obtained permission to use the Waimea Plains license, and it was decided to recommend the request be granted. A NEW COTTRSB. The Chairman (on behalf of the fub-oom-Initleo appoint?d to look ont for another raeecouTs*-) report el that the Forbury Park Laud Cimpany bad leftwed tha offer of £15,000 in »de to thtm for >ha F-»rbury raceconrse, and also reported on Severfcl offers of land which was available and mitable for another course. — After being fully discussed, it waa resolved — •• That the report", as explained by the chairman, be approved,- and that the sub-corn mittes continue its labours bo as to get suitable sites for a racecourse under offer for the consideration of the General Committee, and to call a special meeting when neocrsary." MISCELLANEOUS.
The Gr ymooth Jockey Club intimated that they proposed holding a race meeting on the Qu-en's BirtL diy in aid of the Brunatr relief fund, provided a totaliiator permit was granted. As the whole of the proceeds would go to the relief fund, the co-operation of all metropolitan
clubs was bsing invited — The olub decided that, while they would gladly do all in their power to augment the Brunner relief fund, they were.
afra'd tlatit would be impossible to get any further totalizator permits, ao all the licenses for the year had been issued, and the law did not permit of an iuorease. The secretary was instructed to write to the Taieri Amataur Tnrf Club lo know, why no teport h»d been sent in with regard to the fines for foul riding at their E is ter Monday meeting as reported in the press. A letter was reoeived from the Gore Racing Cinb giving their reahOu* for .not h»ving paid over the stakes in their Maiden Plate to Mr Hizlelt's mare EVwn, and abating that they
hid received Secretary James's letter written to the president of their olub. They quo'ed rale ..46.— 1t was resolved to reply that the Dunediu Jccfcey Club, as the metropolitan body, were of opin : on that rule 46 did not apply, and that the metropolitan club alone passed the piogra^nvs, and as such decided on ,the meaning of the words " they have a-pprovtd." A f mther tale (131) gives the metropalitau club the power of interpreting their own rules. The G; re Ciub are there s ore to be instructed that they must pay over the stakes to Fawn's owner.
