GOLF.
The Ot3goGolf Club's monthly competition for the St. Andrew's croBS took place on Saturday afternoon on tbe links at R'slyn. The green was in fair condition notajfc h«tauding tue bad weather of tbe past weak. Patches of nnow and pools or water were plentiful, but these are no drawbacks to the keen golfer—they rather tend to produce ia his mind that Btate of stoical calm which philosophers regard as the cbie? of the virtues. It calls for a good deal of patience when one makes a floe ehot, and on coming up to his ball fiuds it buried in a snow wreath. The novice is apt to get exasperated, but the old hand only smiles and trusts to making ib up later on by a few twos and threes. Sixteen players turned up to compete for tbe prize, and, as is gf nerally tbe case when the green is full of hazards, the scratch men came to the top of the list. The medal was won by Mr George TorUl, jun. (scratch), with the score of 98—a very good performance in such a state of the green. He was clossly followed by Mr H. MacNeil, jun. (owe 2), and Mr J. A. Somerville (owe 4). The prize of three balls (competed for by those whose handicap is 12 or over) fell for the second time in succession to Mr H. D. Stronach. The following are the scores, the players uot mentioned being over 110 net or not their cards :—
