June 24.— During the whole of last week we had typiral midwinter weather, the snow 1) iug for a couple of days right do*n to the water's edge. The unfortunate cattle that had no proper shelter must have suffered severely. To-day there is a boisterous wind, with frequent cold showers of rain, and the ground in Very wet. Death —I regret to hays to raport the death of a promising chUd, 11 J years of age, a daughter of Mr Thomas Giary. About a fortnight aeo •<kcc.-sci was carrying an armful of hay, when she stumbled and fell forward, brui mc her legra'her «everdy. The injury, though not apparently a dangerous one, led to bone dis-a-e. technically termed "acutenecrosisof the hi nr," which hi its turn was followed by blood prisoning, from which the child died on the 20'h iust —the eleventh day after the accident. No doctor had been called in, the pa'ents of the deceased not thinking the case so aerious as it eventually proved to be. The funß'al took place on Sunday la-t, a large number of perf 0113 following the remains to their last resting place iv the Kavk cemetw, where the burial service was conducted by Mr Wayne, of Selwyn College, Dunedin.
