Notes from Lyell. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Lvelt,, June 21.

Tbe Lyell Creek Company. — The nnnagcr reports :— " On Monday last 1 started driving on the reef, and have driven t?ft since starting. The reef is very hard and clean, measuring Oft in •width, and appears to hi widening to the north. The reef is poll- bearing throughout, the f.otwall portion being of very fair quality. Tho haugiug wall stone is poor so far, but I have not the least doubt that the stone will improve when driven on. At the south endtheßtone is generally poor. The reef is uot down to the bottom of the drive yet, but should be in about another 4ffc of driving. The amount of ttone taken from the Bft8 f t of driving is 20 tons. To-day lam putting in the big fat of timber, so as to make room for tha points and be able to drive both ways." Cocksparrow Dredge. — The manager reports for the wtek:— "We have drtdged Y-H hours for a return of 38oz amalgam. We have not been able bo far to get the bottom. The ground is frightfully rough, with large boulders in the face We are stopped half our time in taking large stones off the buckets. This, with the? gold woiking down tbe face and having no bottom to clear up, is JnakiDg the return small. Iho prospects in the district are stUl good. The probability is thbt in another 20 "'ft we will be able to ici'h the bottom, but uiilees we get bottom I don't think the returns will impiove."
