DUNEDIN BURNS CLUB.

The Burns Club held its regular monthly social meeting on the 19th in the Choral Hall. The attendance was not so large as usual, owing no doubt to the miserable weather, but those who had the hardihood ta face the elements were amply repaid, for the programme was one of the bo-t yet presented by the club. Mr J. B. Thomson (president) was in the chair, and was supported by Mr A. J. Bums (ex-pvOsident). After a few Preliminary remarks by the chairman, the Gitizons' Band, under the conductorship of Mr J. Briggs. contiibutcd some Scotch selections very creditably, and were followed by Mr J. Iloljertsuu, who sang "C ilium M'Olen," his rendering of which met with warm lecognition. Mi&s M'Cliesney gave the well-known song "Culler beu-iii"' with good effect, and was accorded an equally hearty recep r ion. The choir, under the baton of Mr J. B. Kergusaon, were Biicco-sful in their rendition of " The Hlcye boat song," and later on in the evening favoured those present with the part song "The flowers o' tho forest," both item* b;:ing well received. Mi6S Cummiug's siugin« of " Jock o' Hazaldean " v>a% one of the mo^t pleasing features of th« evening. The Rev. MrTayloi w.^down for an address, but this gentleman not beiiii? in :itleinlanre, Mr A. Mr W. i\ Yonni? was more than successful in pleasing his hearers with his singing of *' WVre a' John i ainson'b bairus," those piesent insisting on hi.s repeating a portion, which he did, after twice bowing his acknowledgment. "Dinna cross the burn, Willie" was nicely given by Mra C. F Edgar, and "Moray's fuiry glen" by Mr A. Wright was rtceivfedwith equal favour, the chairman mentioning in connection with this B"ng that the kcaUty was near the Clyde, where a statue was to be erected to Highland Mary. At next meeting, he siid, he was going to ask the members tj help iv raising a unall sum to add a cairn to this. The pi o,jrainmcwas continued by the fitneing of "Bonnie Jcannie of tho Clyde" by Mrs J. Todd, the lady acquitting herself with great credit ; and in addition to contributing this song she played the accompaniments during the ovening. "Auld lung hyne" having been sung with heartiness, the door was cleared of the forms and dauciug engaged in till 11 o'clock.
