The Dunedin Cycling Club'fl road race to Henley was run on Saturday afternoon. The weather was fine, but the roads were, owing to metal having been recently laid iv phicen, uofc in the best condition for racing. A good field started, but the result showed that the handicapper bad underrated tbe capabilities of some t>f the younger ridera, S. Wright and X Melville, each wir.h the limit statt of 15 minutes, finishing flist. and second respectively, while J. M'Phtse, 13 minutes, was the third to reach home.
ftir Angus M'Nab, a member of the Obngo Cjcting Club, succeeded in lowering the cycling reco.d from lu/ercargill to Gore on Saturday, doing the distance in 2br smin. Munden and Gibson led up till the last lap, when the field caught them, and Cameron (100 yd»), spurting, landed in a few feet ahead of W. Gibnon, with Muuden well up for third. The reat to finish were B-gg, Wright, Muir, Arndt, M'Phie, MKenzie. Tirue, B«nin 30^"C.
A Wellington telegram stat«B that the race for the Twenty-mile Ro&d Championship (bicycle) of Wellington was won by T. M. Lucy by 28ec, with L T. Herbert second, and F. B. Muir (late of Dunbdui) third. The race was run on tbe Hutt road. The wiuuer'» time was lhr 6miu 10-«*«. — The flwt race f or th« President's Cup over a distauce of 100/ds, under the auhpiws of the newly-formed Wellington Amateur Swimming Club, resulted in H. H Dacre (late of Auckland) winning, wibh S L. Paxt»idge (late of Christchurch) seoond, and R. C Rennei third. D*cr»» got the beet of the start aud won by a foot in Imin 22sec.
An {nvercitrgill telegram otates that D. M'Pherson, of the local cycling club, returned home on Thursday n : ght after travelling to Auckland and back ou hi* machine. Ho was was six weeks on the journey.
A Timaru telegram states th&t the Tourists' cycling sports were well p»troniaed. Tht< weather was very hot, and a uor'-we-t;r blow the greater p&rb of the GoldHione (55yds) won the Hu.lf-milo, and Pithcr the Five-mile Championßhip (Rsyuolds and Hall fell) iv 13mia and he also won the Five-mile Open. Cameron (280jde) won the Three-mile Roadotor Race, S. M'Douald (80yd») the Ladies' Bracelet (one mile and a-half) and the Three-mile Open (135 yds start), and Shearman (scr) the Two-mile Road*ter. There were uumerous accideute, all five meu falling in the second heat of the Half-mile. The Champion Raoe was robbed of a brilliant finish by Reynolds falling and bringing down Hall.
At th« Christchurch Cash Amateur Cub's annual meeting, on Monday, the Maiden, Mile Handicap was won by K. Rodger (120>dB), the H-H-mile Open Hnndicap by G. H. Leth»by (GOjrd)-), who with the same start wen the SBioiK)-c'.lasH Mile H-ndicap. The Two-mile N«w Zealand Whtol Ruce was w n by F Haub (ll»ngitikei) with 280 yds start, It. Jave, the Mile Handicap by E S. Rainbow (60yds), the Becond-class Two-mile Handicap by P. Dunn (200 yds), and the Ten-mile Handicap by T. Clarkson, with Soanes second and Baker third ; time, 27min 52 3 sseo.
The Hon. Mr S<-d'ion has cabled a message of condolei cs to L&dy Thompson on the detta of her husband, the late Premier of Canada.
