MEETINGS OF CREDITORS.

Re S. L. Pagett. The first meeting of creditors in the estate of Samuel Leonard Pagetb, of Kuitangata, tailor, was to have been held in the official assignee's office on Tuesday morning, but no quorum was present. Dr Fitchett appeared for the bankrupt, and Mr T. K. Sidey for Mr J. M 'Mil lan. Bankrupt's statement showed his liabilities to be £139 18s 2d ; assets (stock-in-trade at Kaitangata £1, book debts £5, furniture £20), £26; deficiency, £113 18s 2d. The unsecured creditors are : — David Owers (Timaru), £14- 5s 3d ; E. Mills (Timaru), £8 ; W. Jones (Timaru), £1 17s ; Wm. Robert Qainn (Timara), £18 16s ; J. Thomson (Timaru), £1 12* lid ; Wm. Watson (Timaru), £4- 2s ; City Corporation, £2 13s 9d ; John M'Donald (Dunedin), £3 10s ; Evening Star, £3 ; Bing, Harris, and Co., £2410s; Edward Ackroyd, £6 18s 9d ; Ross and Glendining, £17 4s 2d ; J. M'Millan, £3 13a 4d (wage 3) ;F. M. Canfcwell, 19s 2d ; Butterworth Bros., £5 0a 2d; W. Auld and Son 3 (Kaitangata), £7 15s ; J. Gordon (Kaitangata). £6 5s 8d ;A. Hislop (Kaitangata), £3 15s ; Wm. M'Kay, £5 15s. Bankrupt examined, stated that he was a tailor carrying on business at Kaitangata since August last. Previous to that he had been in Dunedin for two years. He had only been on his own^account since December last. He was a married man with a wife and six children. He had no capital when he started. He was in debt when he left Dunedin, but he could not gay to what extent. He did not keep an account of his indebtedness to his creditors. The immediate cause of his filing was a judgment aummons obtained against him for money

lent so far back as 1882, by Mr Quinn. He was not doing sufficient business in Eaitangata to pay his way. He was working for wages at Timaru before he came to DunediD, and was getting from £2 10s to £3 per week. He was out of work for some time and got into debt to the extent of some £50. He was in Dunedin for about six months. He was not employed during the whole of that time, and got further into debt by the sum of £75. For three months at Eaitangata he was engaged for wages, getting £2 to £2 5s a week. The meeting then adjourned sine die.
